Vienna Zoo Watch Animal Behaviour with CCTV Cameras

Vienna Zoo are to begin conducting breaking research using the latest technology IP CCTV cameras. An animal behaviour research programme is shortly to begin, that watches the lifestyle of panda’s, penguins and rhinos 24/7.

The 15 fixed and PTZ cameras can be controlled by staff, students and scientists to watch the enclosures either live or recorded. The zoo have stated they are very pleased with the technology and the licensing - that allows them to install the operating software on upto 10 computers on the network is great for allowing access to students and public as well as for the reseachers.

Biometrics Changing CCTV Security

Biometric security uses a biological characteristic to identify an individual. This is a very new technology that is improving all the time and is now successful enough to be used as evidence in court.

CCTV footage can be analysed to determine the characteristics of a person, such as how they walk. This can then be compared with different footage of that person and their characteristic patterns can be matched.

Underground Trains to Recieve UK’s First Microwave CCTV Technology

Metronet Rail has signed an eight year deal with CCTV specialist Telent to provide a Microwave CCTV surveillance system to monitor it’s underground trains.

The technology will be used for the first time in the UK and delivers footage of the trains exterior live to the driver. This will allow the driver to monitor the doors and platform to determine when the train has been boarded by the passengers.

Car Finder Technology

Heathrow Terminal 5 will be the first to trial a new technology pioneered by Siemens Building Technologies Security Solutions, called Car Finder.

The new technology will locate a car in a car park should the returning owner not remember its whereabouts. The owner can simply insert his or her parking ticket into one of the 16 ‘Car Finder’ kiosks to receive a 3D map of the cars location as well as other key information such and the exits, stairs and lifts.
