Vienna Zoo Watch Animal Behaviour with CCTV Cameras

Vienna Zoo are to begin conducting breaking research using the latest technology IP CCTV cameras. An animal behaviour research programme is shortly to begin, that watches the lifestyle of panda’s, penguins and rhinos 24/7.

The 15 fixed and PTZ cameras can be controlled by staff, students and scientists to watch the enclosures either live or recorded. The zoo have stated they are very pleased with the technology and the licensing - that allows them to install the operating software on upto 10 computers on the network is great for allowing access to students and public as well as for the reseachers.

The zoo also requested audio coverage during the design of the CCTV system and 8 of the enclosures were given high quality microphones.

The IP CCTV technology is a great way of broadcasting high quality surveillance footage without causing a heavy amount of bandwidth usage on the network. Storage is also of a high efficiently, allowing fro a great deal of CCTV footage to be stored on the zoo’s 1TB storage facility.

The operating software is set to record at a very low frame rate when there is no motion detected, which reduces the amount of storage required during moments of inactivity.
