Cowley road has long been a hot spot for anti-social behaviour, especially that relating to alchohol. For over 15 years, the community around the Cowley road area have campaigned to get CCTV cameras installed on the street and only now has the campaigning paid off.
The local council have finally agreed, enough is enough and will be funding the installation of two high performance CCTV cameras on Cowley road.
The council have invested in cameras that allow for 360 degrees of vision, meaning the entire area surrounding the cameras can be monitored simply from an operation control point.
Overall, the CCTV cameras, installation, and maintenance, cost ?40,000 but the local people say it’s a small price to pay should it be effective. One business owner reported that the road, must have over the years, accumulated an insurance payout figure far greater than the cost of the CCTV cameras.
