Portsmouth city council have recently installed behaviour recognition technology called Perceptrak, to further improve their CCTV Security network.
The cities current CCTV installtion totals at 142 cameras all linked to the main operators hub. However, they also have access to a further 1000 cameras owned by business CCTV operators.
Perceptrak aids the operators at the main hub of the network. The Video analytics software can detect any behaviour either by human or vehicle that may lead to a criminal activity.
The software is capable of studying the movement of a person and can alert a CCTV operator should their behaviour appear to be suspicious. A person may be loitering in a forbbiden area, or acting suspicously and as such the operator can be made aware of the situation before anything occurs, should it do so. The software is also capable of doing the same for vehicles, making sure a vehicle is following the rules of the road, parking in allocated spaces etc.
The surveillance system will be installed on the councils entire CCTV network as well as 600 of the cameras they also have access to. This will greatly increase the productivity of the operating centre, allowing for more crimes to be noticed and a quicker training period for new CCTV operators.
