Metronet Rail has signed an eight year deal with CCTV specialist Telent to provide a Microwave CCTV surveillance system to monitor it’s underground trains.
The technology will be used for the first time in the UK and delivers footage of the trains exterior live to the driver. This will allow the driver to monitor the doors and platform to determine when the train has been boarded by the passengers.
The surveillance system will be based on Microwave technology that can wirelessy transmit footage from a station to the driver of the train. As the train arrives at the next station the footage from the CCTV cameras monitoring there will be accessibly to the driver.
The technology is already in use in Hong Kong and can be used as the train travels in a straight line or around bends.
