Axis Communications has made it possible to use analogue CCTV cameras in an IP based system.
The three encoders launched support the H.264 video compression format which are compatible with “all types” of analogue cameras.
The encoders convert analogue footage into digital which can be streamed over existing IP systems, reduing the bandwidth and storage requirements by 80% in comparisson to moving jpeg images used by the analogue cameras.
The Axis Q7401 supports one analogue camera, the Q7406, six cameras, and the Q7900, 84 cameras.
The encoders also offer similar features only available on digital technology such as video motion detection and active tampering alarms.
