In a crime plagued estate of Westhoughton the residents of 151 homes have come together to pay the bill for the running of CCTV systems.
After paying £60,000 for the equipment the Contour Homes housing association asked residents to pay £3 a week to cover the running and maintenance of the system that protects their estate.
The last of the four cameras was installed recently and the system will go live on April 1st. Being run by Bolton’s central CCTV unit, Bolton at Home, the operation will reduce anti social behaviour and crime in the area, something that the residents feel is a big result for the small price to pay.
The commitment and trust in surveillance technology from the residents will see them sleeping easier at night and is a great example of neighbourhood watch to similar communities.
