The New Forest District Council has seen a great deal of success with it’s CCTV equipment currently in operation and will shortly be expanding it to have New Milton and Hythe join the three towns of Lymington, Ringwood and Totton - plus the capital, Lyndhurst village as parts of it’s area of surveillance.
Some of the community feel the addition of further cameras would make their lives feel intruded upon and believe the balance of crime prevention and community intrusion is heavily balanced to the latter.
The local police force would also like to see the use of mobile CCTV cameras to be used in an area until the problem is resolved and the cameras can then be moved on. This would keep the number of cameras down to a minimum and keep the balance of crime prevention and the feeling of community intrusion at an acceptable level.
