Honiton Police have been told they can not use the town’s CCTV system because it may corrupt their mainframe computer.
A separate computer will be required with an estimated cost of around £400 for the computer and another £600 for broadband set up and annual fees.
Along with the system the Honiton Town Council would also like to see two new CCTV cameras put into operation. Two hot-spots have been identified for their positioning and officials have researched the use of cameras with two lenses to view not only in front of the camera but behind it as well.
The overall cost of these cameras would sum up to £10,000. Honiton Town Watch Committee is likely to offer £1,000 of the figure but further funding is required.
The police have confirmed the new equipment will assist them in their duties as well as increasing the feeling of protection amongst the community.
